"Hypnotic, edgy, stirring and a true artistic auditory experience, Wednesday's Child storms into the Music Industry with their latest single, "I Want You to Want Me." " Produced by a Girl
Wednesday’s Child are a London-based band for whom convention means very little. Melting together punk and psychedelic rock with a jazz twist, the group are difficult to pigeonhole and impossible to ignore. Their new single ‘I Want You to Want Me’ is as hypnotic as it is unsettling. Although this could be called a love song, feelings of love and lust are rarely as sweet as depicted in most love songs.
That is where ‘I Want You to Want Me’ diverges; Wednesday’s Child let loose the full force of these overwhelming emotions, with the music and lyrics taking unexpected turns. Both drama and whimsy are at play, colliding to create something truly unique. While other love songs swoon, Wednesday’s Child scream. The songwriters, Emily Roberts and Georgia Williams, began collaborating during the UKs various lockdowns, and out of isolation grew connection. From different creative backgrounds (jazz and acting respectively), it comes as little surprise that the band should harbour such a distinctive sound.
With influences as wide raging as John Cooper Clarke, The Beatles, Patti Smith and Billie Holiday, such an eclectic sound becomes even easier to understand. That said, while there are echoes of the above across Wednesday’s Child work, they embody no-one but themselves.
This is the first single following our debut EP released in the Autumn. The music video for the EP’s lead single ‘Begin Again’ has over 1k views on YouTube, and ‘Nearby Nowhere’ gained prestigious radio play on BBC Radio 6 Music by Tom Robinson who called the song “134 second of fresh, focused DIY pop”. We have been headlining shows across London, and in June we play our first festival main stage in Cornwall. As we continue to build a following, we are excited to be releasing new music!
